The Boerne Independent School District voted unanimously Monday to adopt a budget that lowers the district’s property tax for a fifth straight year and saves taxpayers hundreds of dollars.
The total tax rate of $0.9932 cents marks an 18-cent decrease from last year’s $1.1786 cent mark.
'We pride ourselves on being advocates for the needs of our students while also being good stewards of taxpayer dollars,” Boerne ISD board of trustees President Carlin Friar said. “The board ... is very proud to lower the tax rate for the fifth year in a row, this time by almost 19 cents.”
While the average market value of residences continued to rise – to $657,611 from last budget’s $565,876 – the average taxable value actually declined, to $444,652 from last year’s $450,336 --a 1% decrease.
As a result, the district’s adopted tax rate of $0.9932 produces a decrease of nearly $890 per household from the amount the previous year.
“We have always been fiscally conservative and respect the taxpayer’s best interest,” Friar said. “The fact that the average taxpayer will save nearly $900 in property taxes means a lot to us and is a win for everyone in our community. We appreciate the tremendous support that we have received from our community.”
The district's tax rate has decreased 36 cents since 2018, ranking among the lowest school tax rates in the area.
The district maintenance and operation (M&O) fund ad valorem tax rate figures in at 66.92 cents per $100 of assessed valuation. The debt service (interest and sinking, I&S) fund tax rate came in at 32.4 cents per $100 -- combining for the 99.32-cent rate.
