TUG THE TRUCK

Teams compete to pull a fire truck in Kendall Co.’s 100 Club fundraiser

Kendall County’s finest were on hand Saturday in downtown Boerne for the third annual “Tug The Truck” event, hosted by Black Rifle Coffee and the 100 Club of Kendall County.

Teams of 10 people lined up, grabbed a rope, and attempted to drag a 22-ton fire truck as far and as fast as humanly possible.

Laura Andersen, President of the 100 Club, was instrumental in making the event a success. Boerne Fire Department Chief Manuel Casarez, Boerne Police Chief Steve Perez and Kendall County Sheriff Al Auxier pitched in to make sure the event went off without a hitch.

Several vendors were situated along the “tug” route on East San Antonio Avenue to provide services, merchandise and food for the event attendees.

Opening ceremonies were emceed by 100 Club’s board member Cris Andersen. Kendall County Commissioner Christina Bergmann gave thanks for the services provided by law enforcement and fire fighters and offered a prayer for the participants in the event.

The Honor Guard presented the Colors and Jim Manzo played the National Anthem. After a moment of silence for 9-11 fallen first responders, the Memorial Bell was rung seven times for Kendall County Fallen First Responders as Manzo played “Taps.”

More than 20 teams of 10 people each competed to achieve the fastest time pulling the fire truck. A variety of businesses, groups and first responders competed.

The Battle at the Alamo City (BATAC) team won with a time of 10.41 seconds. Six teams participated in the contest to push a police cruiser. Boerne Police Team 1 won that competition with a time of 6.9 seconds.

A spirited ‘Tug of War’ was played by the Guns & Hoses teams, with the Police and Sheriff’s team winning the competition. The children of those teams also competed in a tug of war; the Fire Department’s kids won that contest.

The 100 Club of Kendall County is organized “to engage in all activities necessary, useful, or expedient to encourage, promote, and further augment the safe and effective Law Enforcement, Firefighting, and Emergency Medical services in our primary service area of Kendall County, Texas by supporting first responders, their children, their families, and our community.”

This includes supporting their mental health as they experience loss of all kinds in their daily work lives.

Corporate sponsors for the third annual Tug the Truck event included Black Rifle Coffee Company, Cibolo Creek Community Church, EventRisk, Inc., Terracon, Lovorn Law, Pfluger, Hamrick Law, Boerne ISD, Gilded Palm, Mission Pharmacal, Tootie Pie, Crestmont Private Wealth, Jump N’ Boerne, and Blacksmith Grill.
