THE BOOKWORM
Hello everyone! My name is Cassidy Kennell, and I work alongside Miss Constance with your children and families in the youth department at the Patrick Heath Public Library.
A little about myself: I was born and raised right here in Boerne. I even got my first library card in elementary school on a school field trip when the library was still located in the Dienger building.
After graduating from Boerne High School, I attended Northwest Vista College and then UTSA where I received my bachelor’s degree in English. Currently, I am attending the University of North Texas as an online student working toward my master’s in library science.
When I am not working or attending school, my favorite thing to do, of course – read. While my favorite genre is fiction, I love to read books from all different genres and with diverse topics. I also have other hobbies such as drawing and painting.
Since I was a little girl, I’ve had a passion for art. In college, I even taught art at a private school for a few years. Another thing I love to do in my free time is bake. My favorite treats to make at home from scratch are chocolate chip cookies and cinnamon rolls.
Lastly, I love to hike. Whenever I get the chance, I enjoy taking my puppy Maverick on walks in the Cibolo Nature Center.
Now that you know a little bit about me, I cannot wait to meet and get to know all of you.
Don’t forget to stop by the desk in the youth department and offer a friendly introduction. I would love to discuss favorite books, current reading obsessions, delicious recipes, fabulous hiking spots, and much more.
I look forward to getting to know everyone and having fun with y’all in the youth department.
Summer is out, school is in
The summer is officially over and students have returned to their classrooms, where they have begun a new, exciting school year full of possibilities.
However, while summer may be over for the children, the Texas heat is known to stick around for a while longer. Fortunately, the library is a great place for children to hang out after school or on Saturdays with family. Our library offers refreshingly cool spaces to hang out, study, discover books, and play or work on available devices.
New ‘Tween programs and other after-school programs Starting Tuesday, the youth department will kick start our programs for this school year.
In addition to beloved children’s programs, this year we are so excited to offer some new afterschool programs geared toward our fourth and fifth graders.
We aim to create an inviting and entertaining area where ‘tweens can gather after school to hang out, play games, and have fun.
* On Mondays and Thursdays starting Sept. 7, we will feature “Game On! for Tweens.”
Fourth and fifth graders can make their way to the youth activity room after school where they can duke it out on games like Super Smash Bros, work together to survive and build something new in their own Minecraft world, get in some fun exercise or have a dance battle on Just Dance, and much more.
* Freaky Friday. In addition to Game On! for Tweens, we will also be offering Freaky Friday activities. Each Friday we will set up fun games or activities for youth in kindergarten through fifth grade to participate in during their after-school hours.
Some of the activities in the lineup include a matinee, art projects, board games, and other exciting surprises.
* On Tuesdays, beginner readers will get the opportunity to practice their skills with a furry friend, and at 5 p.m. on Wednesdays, toddlers and their parents can come in for a chance to participate in an evening music and movement time.
Visit the library to discover a whole new world for all family members – see you soon.
