• Farmers Market at Herff Farm, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Buy products directly from local growers, ranchers, and crafters on a beautiful historic German farmstead in the Texas Hill Country. Explore fenced gardens, pollinator meadow, and trails, and see the historic limestone Herff House. For details: www.cibolo. org.

• Second Saturday teaching garden volunteering, Herff Farm, 10 a.m.-noon. Learn about organic gardening while helping maintain the demonstration gardens at the Herff Farm Teaching Garden. Help weed, water, use garden tools, and all the things needed to help maintain a beautiful organic garden. No experience is required. Register at www.cibolo.org.

• Art in Conservation: Watercolor Class, Herff Farm, 10 a.m.-noon. Join artist Rebecca Burritt in watercolor class. Learn the basic techniques of painting, glazing, wet-in-wet, dry brush and more. • Boerne Market Days, Boerne Main Plaza, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Spend a day browsing the market and visiting the many downtown boutiques, galleries and restaurants for a unique Hill Country experience. A variety of bargains to be found -- jewelry, plants, art, handcrafts, collectibles, antiques, and more.

• Boerne Shop-A-Palooza, Historic Downtown Boerne shops, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. This event is two days full of shopping fun. Get a “gameboard,” which has different items to be purchased or amounts spent at participating stores and restaurants. Receive raffle tickets for each of the items marked off on your gameboard. Prizes galore: tickets are $10 each; $5 of each ticket will be donated to the Boys & Girls Club.

• Texas Treasures Fine Art Gallery & Frame Shop’s grand opening, 919 State Hwy. 46 East, suite 102, Boerne, from noon-8 p.m. Join Texas Treasures at their new location and help celebrate their 12th anniversary show and sale. Live music, food, live art demonstrations, a meet-and-greet with artists, open bar and more. The event is free to the public.

• Old Jail Museum Tours, 10 a.m.4 p.m., 208 E. San Antonio. Tour the Old Jail Museum and enjoy its unique exhibits. Tickets are $5 for adults; children under 10, veterans, and law enforcement are free.

• Kuhlmann-King Museum Tours, Kuhlmann-King Historical Complex, noon-3 p.m. Take a tour around the Kuhlmann-King property to step back in time.

• Bluegrass Jam at The AgriCultural Museum, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. every second and fourth Saturday. Bring an instrument and play along, or just come to listen to the Bluegrass Jam at The AgriCultural (formerly the Agricultural Heritage Museum). The event is free and open to the public.

• The Bookshop Under the Windmill, next to Patrick heath Public Library (PHPL) is open Wednesday- Saturday, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Find great books, magazines, and movies, all at great prices! The Bookshop is run by the Friends of the Boerne Public Library. Funds raised through the shop go back to the PHPL.

• Kendall County Nonprofit Day proclamation, Kendall County Courthouse, 9-10 a.m. Join the Kendall County Judge and Commissioners Court as they declare Aug. 17 as “Kendall County Nonprofit Day.” Nonprofit Day brings together all nonprofit Boerne Chamber of Commerce members to celebrate each other and their successes. The proclamation kicks off the County Commission meeting.

• Bulky Item Collection Week. Bulky items and brush pick-up occurs monthly on the first full week of the month. Residents should have their bins by the curb by 7 a.m. on their normal collection day. • Hill Country Newcomers meeting, St. Mark Presbyterian Church, 10 a.m.-noon, 208 W. Bandera Road. The first general meeting of the Hill Country Newcomers 2023-24 club year will be held in St. Mark’s Family Life Center.

• Planning and Zoning Commission meeting, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The meeting can be livestreamed at: www.ci.boerne.tx.us.

• Food for Thought Book Discussion Group, PHPL, noon-1 p.m. The Food for Thought Book Discussion Group will meet to discuss the book “Lessons in Chemistry” by Bonnie Garmus.

• Ribbon-cutting for The Wounded Warrior Project, 11:30 a.m.-noon at Greater Boerne Chamber of Commerce, 121 S. Main St. The Wounded Warrior Project began as a small, grassroots effort providing simple care and comfort items to the hospital bedsides of the first wounded service members returning from Iraq and Afghanistan. Today, they improve the lives of millions of warriors and their families through direct programs in mental health, career counseling, and long-term rehabilitative care.

• Ribbon-cutting for The Kendall County Citizen’s Law Enforcement Academy Alumni Association, 1:30-2 p.m. at the Greater Boerne Chamber of Commerce. KCCLEAAA is comprised of citizens who have successfully completed the Kendall County Citizens Law Enforcement Academy. The Academy provides participants with an understanding of the roles and processes of local law enforcement agencies.

• Teacup Techie, 10-11 a.m. in the PHPL lobby, 451 N. Main St. Alicia is in the lobby on Tuesdays to help answer any technology-related questions.

• “Art in Conversation: Drawing from Nature,” 10 a.m.-noon at Herff Farm, 33 Herff Road. Observing the natural world with a pencil allows you to explore your environments. With the practice of basic skills; of sighting, proportion, value, line quality and detail, attendees learn to draw what they see through their own interpretation. • “Looking Ahead: Preparing for Boerne’s Future” workshop with the city of Boerne from 9-10 a.m. in the Greater Boerne Chamber of Commerce boardroom. City officials will look at upcoming projects and future plans already in place. The workshop is free, but RSVP is recommended due to space limitations; www.boerne.org.

• “Cibolo Summer Series: August Hikes” 9:30-11 a.m. at the Cibolo Nature Center, 140 City Park Road. These easy, investigative, and enriching walks will explore a different topic/niche that connects the Hill Country landscape. Come and cruise the land to learn more about the fantastic forbs. $10 to attend; intended for 18 years and older.

• Boerne Chamber board of directors meeting, 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m., chamber conference room.

• Ribbon-cutting at The Ironwood Barn at Von Erich Ranch, 1:30-2 p.m. The Ironwood Barn at Von Erich Ranch is a 5,000-square foot, family-owned, converted barn with an inviting atmosphere and flexible space for any event. Indoor and outdoor spaces are available for weddings, corporate retreats, and more.

• Nonprofit Day Mixer, 4-6 p.m. Join a fun mixer celebrating Boerne and Kendall County Nonprofit Day. Nonprofits are a major asset to the community. • “Men’s Night” 6-8 p.m. at Free Roam Brewing Company, 325 S. Main St. The brewery invites men out to the beer garden once a month for some brews and inspirational speeches from a variety of guest speakers. The open invitation is designed to provide a sense of community and camaraderie in a space where “guys can just be guys.” For men 13 and up. Food trucks will be available; no reservation needed.

• Kendall County Nonprofit Monthly Lunch Bunch meeting, noon-1 p.m. A social forum for Boerne chamber nonprofit members to make sure every Kendall County nonprofit leader is aware of what is happening in the community, and to create peer mentorship/collaboration. • Active Movement -- Qigong, 1011 a.m. in the PHPL community room. Join LaVada Smith as she guides attendees through the ancient meditative, easy-movement practice of Qigong. Dress comfortably; no special equipment or mats needed. This program is part of the Silver Library Initiative.

• Frost Bank Wagon Breakfast, 7:30-9:30 a.m. at the Frost Bank Boerne Financial Center, 1300 S. Main St. Swing by for a chuckwagon- style breakfast. Menu includes scrambled eggs, sausage, biscuits and gravy, peach cobbler, and coffee. The event is free and open to the public.
