NATALIE MORGAN BOERNE PUBLIC LIBRARY
AFTERSCHOOL FUN AT THE LIBRARY We are so excited to welcome our community’s young people back to the library after school each day. While we don’t have programming quite yet, we’re working hard to bring elementary, middle school and high school students interesting and engaging programs.
For the younger crowd, starting Tuesday Sept. 5 at 4 p.m., we’ll be offering PAWS 4 Reading. Children will have the opportunity to read aloud to a trained, certified therapy dog each week.
On Thursdays, youngsters can visit the youth activity room to partake in Nintendo Switch gaming, and on Freaky Fridays, anything goes. Children may get to color, play board games, and anything else we might think of.
On the following Monday, Sept. 11, we begin our other weekly Nintendo Switch gaming. Each week at 4:30 p.m., teens in Grade 6 and up have the opportunity to participate in outdoor activities on Tuesdays.
Wednesday Crafternoons present a variety of creative experiences for students who enjoy working with their hands and imaginations. Thursdays are for gamers who love playing with Nintendo Switch. Our teen staff member, Leah Mayo, is new to the position, but she’s so excited to meet your teens and help them discover all the cool things they can do here at the library after school.
LIBRARY ETIQUETTE
OK, we’ve told you all the fun stuff, but here’s the disclaimer. We do expect students to behave just as we expect any other patron would.
Additionally, it’s important to know that students must be picked up promptly so that they’re not sitting outside after we close. We want to ensure that your young people are safely off library grounds after business hours, unless they’re accompanied by a trusted adult.
Please visit our website to see a full list of library expectations. Again, we want everyone to have an enjoyable, pleasant experience here.
PRE-SCHOOL PROGRAMS
Weekly storytimes are returning to the library. Beginning Sept. 6, Wednesday mornings in September, Wednesday mornings at 9:30 a.m., babies can learn about their world with our hands-on Sensory Studio. At 10:30 a.m., the older crowd, aged 2 to 5, can participate in Miss Constance’s storytime, which includes songs, stories, puppet shows and more.
On Wednesdays at 5 p.m. we offer a new program for little ones. Miss Constance and Miss Libby will host our “Bouncing on the Bed” program, which features music and movement. And finally, Miss Libby will host her popular Book Babies program for pre-walkers at 9:30 a.m. on Thursdays.
MOVIE TALK
Monday, Aug. 14 at 3 p.m., Zoom in to hear a fascinating talk about Alfred Hitchcock by Dan Auiler, the author of “Vertigo: The Making of a Hitchcock Classic.”
On Wednesday, Aug. 16, we’ll be showing the classic, “Bringing Up Baby,” at the Center at Kronkosky. The public is invited to watch this movie. We ask that you register for either one of these programs by emailing Caren Creech at [email protected].
WELCOME, MISS CASSIDY
We are pleased to introduce Cassidy Kennell to families visiting the youth department. After first working with us as a college intern, we hired her to be our summer temporary help with children.
When the position of youth assistant opened up last month, we hired her full-time. She’s not only kind and friendly, but she’s also attending library school at the University of North Texas to pursue her passion for libraries and the role they play in any community. We consider ourselves fortunate to have her on staff.
