Drought, development on county commission’s agenda Monday

Drought, development, and the path forward are the focus of Kendall County Commissioners Court meeting 9 a.m. Monday on the third floor of the Kendall County Courthouse.

Drought, development, and the path forward are the focus of Kendall County Commissioners Court meeting 9 a.m. Monday on the third floor of the Kendall County Courthouse.

“Drought conditions ranging from “extreme” to “exceptional” beginning in the spring of 2022 continue and show no signs of easing,” Judge Shane Stolarczyk said. “Springs and rivers are low or no flow. Vegetation is dry and dying; the entire county is a tinderbox.”

The imminent threat of wildfire prompted Stolarczyk on Aug. 8 to issue a Declaration of Local Disaster in accordance with the State of Texas Proclamation of Disaster and Local Government Code Chapter 418. The declaration is effective immediately and augments the burn ban enacted in July.

Further restrictions on fireworks, fines for violations, and, if necessary, possible evacuations may be ordered to protect lives.

“Wildfires move through these hills rapidly. We want to ensure our residents and emergency personnel are not placed in harm’s way,” he added.
