Rotarian Greg Buschmann relished his final hour and 20 minutes as president of the Fair Oaks Ranch Rotary Club. Two duties remained before he passed the torch to his successor, however – install the new board of directors, and present Jaime Sepulveda Jr., as the 2022-23 “Rotarian Of The Year.”
Buschmann stepped aside June 28 at the conclusion of the 11th annual Installation Dinner Ceremony, making way for President-elect Ron Hubbard to assume his reign for the 2023-24 year.
Sepulveda last year joined the club’s board of directors as one of its six committee chairs. Buschmann said Sepulveda had “already established himself as one of our members who participated in just about every service event – Shred Day, Hazardous Materials Day, BISD Resource Rally, and Breakfast with Santa.”
He helped lead the Boerne ISD Incubator Program at Champion High School and, with another member Fair Oaks Ranch Rotarian, served as a mentor and coach for one of the teams in the course.
He also was involved in resurrecting the Interact Program at Champion, which had been a victim of the pandemic. He helped carry out the club’s annual scholarship programs at both Boerne and Boerne Champion high schools.
Buschmann said Sepulveda was an adult mentor from the club “who spent many Wednesday afternoons at Roy Maas Youth Alternatives in a golf-related activity that goes a long way to teach at risk children as much about life as the game of golf.”
The honor recipient ran for and was elected to the FOR Homeowners Association board of directors and co-chairs the organization’s Parks and Trails Committee.
Sepulveda moved to the United States from Mexico when he was 13 years old. He settled in, and eventually bought and sold nine businesses in his career. He currently is running a commercial property management firm.
Buschmann said Sepulveda once told him, “Greg, I am living the American Dream.”
The club also inducted two new members, Stephanie Fargo and Josie Juarez.
On hand for the board induction ceremony and Rotarian of the Year presentation were Past District Gov. Dwayne Hopkins, Past District Gov. Jerry Hardy, Past District Governor and Past Club President Kathy Hubbard, Joe Anzollitto, the president-elect of the Boerne Rotary Noontime Club, and Mike Canales of the San Antonio North Central Club.
