The Comfort ISD board of trustees Friday named Dr. Yvonne Munoz the district’s lone finalist for the position of Superintendent.
Munoz has been the director of academic services in San Diego (Texas) ISD for the past four years and is tabbed to replace Dr. Tanya Monroe, who recently retired.
By state law, a finalist for the superintendent position must complete a 21-day waiting period before officially being named the superintendent of schools.
During her time in the San Diego ISD, Munoz assisted in improving their middle school campus rating from an “F” to a “B,” and to a “C” at the elementary campus. Munoz started her career as an elementary teacher. She has been a successful principal both at an elementary and secondary level.
In addition, Munoz was recognized as an Outstanding Woman in Education by the Education Service Center, Region 2 in March 2022.
Overseeing the district’s $5 million grant program and budget, she ensured strategies were focused on building teacher and leadership capacity. In addition, she collaborated on acquiring over $1 million in grants for the SDISD.
Dr. Munoz received her bachelor’s degree, earned her master’s degree in Master of Science educational administration, and doctoral degree from Texas A&M University-Kingsville.
