Geneva School of Boerne hosted its Commencement Exercises May 27 at University United Methodist Church in San Antonio. The class of 55 seniors is Geneva’s 13th graduating class.

The Class of 2023 had 23 students who are members of the Geneva Guild which recognizes those who began at Geneva in kindergarten and completed all 13 years at the school. 2023 Geneva Guild members are Ava Ayers, Sophia Baldwin, Sloane Burkholder, Sophia Dacy, Avery Eggerss, Claire Erfurt, Jake Flora, Dominic Garcia, Guy George, Cole Hodo, Henry Jons, Luke Kaiser, Guy Kohler, Ellie Ledoux, Chaz Garcia, Amy Grace Miller, Zach Petty, Ransom Smith, Ally Turgon, Sydney Turnbow, George Viña, Spencer Yarbrough and Callie Zuniga.

The commencement exercises began with a prelude of classical music. The processional, “At Long Last,” was played on bagpipes as the faculty and members of the Class of 2023 entered.

Interim Head of School Debbie Ledoux gave the welcome and Karl Eggerss, Geneva parent and former board member, offered the opening prayer.

V a l e d i c t o r i a n Juliana Flores and Salutatorian Elle Nicholson each addressed the graduates personally in their speeches before the assembly sang the hymn, “Great is Thy Faithfulness.”

Teacher Debbie Wheeler read Philippians 4:6-8, and pastor and author Max Lucado delivered the commencement speech titled, “Anxious for Nothing.” He encouraged students to rejoice, pray and trust in the Lord as they transition to the next stage in their lives.

After the graduates were conferred, the community sang the alma mater and the hymn, “ Non Nobis,” which is Latin for “Not unto us, O Lord, but to Your name give glory,” from Psalm 115:1.

Rhetoric School Headmaster Dirk Russell offered the closing prayer. The faculty choir sang “The Lord Bless You and Keep You” before the commencement exercises closed.
