COMFORT – The names of the men killed in a head-on collision on U.S. 87 have been identified by state officials.
Traffic along U.S. 87 between Comfort and Fredericksburg came to a standstill Monday morning after a two-vehicle collision claimed the lives of five men.
State troopers were called shortly before 8 a.m. to the accident scene just north of Comfort. The roadway remained closed for several hours.
One of the victims was 16 years old, investigators said.
Texas Department of Public Safety officials said a preliminary investigation indicates a small, white car — with four occupants including the driver and three other male passengers — was traveling in a no-passing zone and collided head-on with a black car.
The four men in the white vehicle have been identified as Nelson Rivera-Aguilar, 32; Orlando Machorro-Ramos, 16; Jose Gonzalez-Galvez, 30; and Kevin Portill0, 28.
Officials said the driver of the black car was the only occupant in the vehicle, but the motorist’s identity has not been released.
Officials identified the driver of the black car as 32-year-old Nathan Malosh.
“(Malosh) was leaving Fredericksburg and heading home to Converse after he had gotten there Sunday afternoon,” a GoFundMe seeking money for Malosh’s cremation reads. “All the people who knew him are [are] left in shock and devastated to know he is no longer with us. Nathan was a very genuine person – smart, loved his family, had a big heart and could make you laugh no matter if you were mad or sad. He was so full of life, hardworking and a loving guy.”

A narrative on a GoFundMe account created by a relative of one of the men in the white car indicated the group was on the way to a job in Fredericksburg at the time of the accident.
Anyone interested in donating to the family of the four men can do so at According to Kendall County Emergency Medical Services, all but one of the men was dead when first responders arrived.
“The last one we were trying to extricate as he took his last breath basically. He was critically wounded or injured, and we couldn’t get the door open, and he expired,” Kendall County EMS Administrator Brian Webb said.
The white car was headed north on 87 while the black car traveled south when the fatal crash occurred at 7:38 a.m., according to DPS officials.
The wreck happened just past the Kendall County line, heading into Kerr County.
The Kendall County Sheriff’s Office call sheets show a witness to the accident first called 911 at 7:55 a.m., reporting a head-on collision with four or five people seen but not moving.
By 7:58 a.m., another witness reported one of the vehicles caught fire.
Several departments responded to the emergency, including Kendall County EMS, the Comfort Fire Department, Fredericksburg EMS and Fire, the Kerr County Sheriff’s Office, the Gillespie County Sheriff’s Office and DPS.
More information will be reported as it becomes available.
