Carriage House Gallery to honor sculptor and friend

CELEBRATING THE ARTS

CELEBRATING THE ARTS

Doug Roper’s love for art and history began with his childhood in Europe, Central America, and multiple states in the United States. He was encouraged by the noted Texas sculptress Waldine Tauch, and his formal training began at the Warren Hunter School of Art in the 1970s. After taking a sculpting course with Louis Guzman, Doug had his first bronze cast. From that date forward, he created miniature, life-sized, and large commissioned bronze sculptures. As part of a cultural exchange exhibit in the early 1990s, Doug was selected as one of the ten artists whose work was sent to San Antonio’s sister city in Kyoto, Japan.

Carriage House Gallery and Janet Roper invite you to a special event featuring Sculptor, Husband and Friend, Doug Roper (1949-2023), reception July 8, 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. A limited number of sculptures will be offered from June 28 through July 8 with proceeds benefiting his wife, and the support of their two grandchildren, for whom they are responsible. Meet Janet and browse Doug’s amazing sculptures, while enjoying wine and light refreshments.

Doug was one of Carriage House Gallery’s founding members in 2003. He was an excellent sculptor and not only created original works but also completed many commissions for universities and branches of the military. Among his many works, his centerpiece sculpture, Taking Flight, welcomes visitors to Morgan’s Wonderland, the San Antonio park for special needs children and adults.

Doug was well-respected and loved by many. He knew no strangers; he made one feel instantly welcomed and comfortable in his presence. His artwork was created with love and a commitment to “reveal the heart and history” of a subject. Doug would want us to remember him as ‘A Man of Faith, Family and Friends’. The exhibit dates are June 28-July 23. Refer to www.dougroper.com to view sculptures. For information call: 830248-1184; 110 Rosewood Avenue, Boerne.
