Boerne High opened the second round of district girls basketball action Tuesday night with a road trip to Davenport.
The Lady Hounds completed the season sweep of the Lady Wolves on Tuesday and the score was very similar to that of their firstround meeting.
When the teams opened district play on Dec. 13 in Boerne, the Lady Hounds won 54-23, and on Tuesday, the BHS girls claimed the 54-26 win.
In last week’s Boerne High girls basketball game against Canyon Lake, Averi Aaron collected the 1,000th rebound of her high school career, not 1,500 as reported in last Friday’s Boerne Star. Averi does have 1,500 points to her credit though.
The Lady Greyhounds improve to 25-1 overall and 7-0 in district. They hosted Bandera on Friday.
In Tuesday’s game, Boerne pulled away from Davenport with a strong second half. The Lady Hounds were up 9-5 after one and then the Lady Wolves outscored them by a point in the second quarter, 13-12, to give BHS a 21-18 halftime lead.
BHS blew it open in the third by outscoring the Wolves 20-5 for the 41-23 advantage. It was more of the same in the fourth quarter after Boerne claimed the final stanza 13-3 as the Lady Hounds defense only gave up 8 points in the second half.
Jamie Ruede led the team with 19 points, Averi Aaron added 10, Abby Smith and Taegan King both scored 7, Jenna Ruede added 6, Liz Fox netted 3 and Savannah Salinas had 2.
Aaron grabbed 12 rebounds, Smith snagged 8 boards, Jenna Ruede dished out 4 assists, Aaron and Jamie Ruede both recorded 3 assists, while Jamie Ruede came up with 5 steals and Aaron had 4 for the Lady Hounds team that finished with 14 steals in the game.
