The postseason continues this weekend for the Boerne High baseball and softball teams.
The Greyhound baseballers are in a one-gamer against Sweeny Friday in Hallettsville, 7 p.m. It’ll be a battle of state-ranked teams with Boerne coming in at No. 6 and Sweeny at No. 8 according to the latest Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association poll.
BHS is 29-3 overall and coming off a sweep of Gonzales in the first round. The Hounds won the first game on the road, 19-6, and closed it out at home in Game 2 last Saturday, 10-0.
Sweeny (25-4-1) beat Ingleside in a one-gamer last Friday, 10-0, to open the playoffs and was the second-place team in 25-4A.
The only other area team left in the postseason is the Boerne softball squad. The Lady Greyhounds move on to the third round where they’ll face Columbia in a best-of-three series at La Grange starting Friday, 7 p.m. Game 2 is Saturday morning, 10 a.m., and a third game will follow if needed.
Boerne (28-5) hasn’t dropped a game in the postseason and has swept its first two opponents. They beat Gonzales in the first round at Marion, 10-0 and 17-0, and then swept Needville last week in La Grange, 9-2 and 12-5.
Columbia (29-6) beat Rockport Fulton in the first round and then eliminated Navarro in the second round. They were the third-place team in District 25-4A.
Boerne is ranked No. 8 according to the Texas High School Coaches Association softball poll, while Columbia isn’t listed in the top 10.
