Betty Jean Theis

Betty Jean Theis

She was a lifelong resident of Boerne and, being a part of two original German families, Theis and Froboese, never wanted to live anywhere else.
She graduated from Boerne High School in 1952 and in 1953, married her high school sweetheart, Maurice Theis. They bought their first piece of property and built their first home just south of Boerne.
Jeanie was always the perfect homemaker and worked hard at making a home for her family. She was a wonderful cook, who made the most incredible homemade bread anywhere. She was a great seamstress, who

helped her household by sewing and making clothing for her family and for others outside the family.
Jeanie was an accomplished pianist and played the piano for The Grange, an agricultural organization, at local meetings and at the state level meetings. Later, she played the piano and the organ for her church, St. John Lutheran Church in Boerne. Her love of music was passed down to her family through the years.
Jeanie worked alongside her husband Maurice as volunteers for the Boerne Volunteer Fire Department, to raise funds for equipment and expenses. She also volunteered her time with Maurice with the Kendall County Jr. Livestock Association, to put on the local county stock show for the 4-H and FFA kids.
As her family grew and she was able to do more away from the home, Jeanie began working with her brother and mother, helping run Hill Country African Violets and Nursery. She worked full-time there with her family, growing the business into a very successful enterprise.
She continued to work with the nursery into her late 80s, utilizing the family trait of a “green thumb” making flowers and plants thrive.
Jeanie and Maurice were married for nearly 68 years when Maurice died. She is survived by one son, Ronald Theis of Boerne; two daughters, Paula Flukinger and Lori (Jess) Hawkins, both of Boerne; six grandchildren, Stephanie (Matt) Daniel of Seguin, Texas, Isaiah Ubando of Chicago, Illinois, Ashley Arispe of San Angelo, Texas, Cody (Kelly) Hawkins of Heath, Texas; and Russell Flukinger, Wesley Flukinger and Adam (Vanessa) Hawkins, all of Boerne; and nine great-grandchildren, Courtney (Collum) Simpson of Salado, Texas, Gracie Hawkins and Charlie Hawkins of Boerne, Trinity Arispe, Aliana Arispe and Everly Mirelez, all of San Angelo, Texas, and Cooper Hawkins, Mack Hawkins and Campbell Hawkins, all of Heath, Texas.
Jeanie is also survived by her brother, Ken Froboese, of Boerne.
Jeanie is preceded in death by her husband, Maurice; her father and mother, Benno and Elsie Froboese; and an infant son born in 1964.
The services to celebrate her life and home-going will be provided through Ebensberger- Fisher Funeral Home and held at St. John Lutheran Church in Boerne. A visitation will be held at 10 a.m. March 8, 2025, followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m. She will be placed in her final resting place next to her husband, Maurice, in Boerne Cemetery.
