Circle May 3 on the calendar, as Music On The Mile makes its return to downtown Boerne.

The brainchild of Nancy and Paul Holekamp, Music On The Mile paired with the 12th annual Art Waddle in 2024, combining beautiful works of art and entertaining music, much to the delight of art-lovers and concert-goers.

This year, however, Music On The Mile organizers chose to break out on their own and bring yet another event to lure residents, visitors and shoppers to the Hill Country Mile.

“We’re very interested in bringing people into town with events like these,” Paul Holekamp said. “Nancy is an advent retailer, she’s had The Corner Cartel for over 30 years. She’s directing this; it’s just something we’d like to see, and see more of.”

While Music On The Mile jumps to the first weekend in May, this year’s 13th annual Art Waddle remains locked in for its May 23-24 Memorial Day run, continuing to feature stunning works of art from dozens of area artists, food and drink booths and trucks, and musical accompaniment of its own.

The Holekamps chose to move Music On The Mile earlier in the month for a couple reasons, Paul said.

“The Art Waddle weekend last year was so blistering hot, that’s why we decided to go a little earlier this year, the first weekend in May,” he said.

“And we just wanted to create another event.

We’d like to see our downtown engaged in as many events as possible,” he said, adding, “Great location, great venue, great shops and hopefully, great weather.”

Plans are to offer music from noon to 10 p.m. on similar stages as last year. Paul said his wife is in the process of nailing down the stages and the acts that will perform on them.

Last year, stages stood at, or inside, Black Rifle Coffee Company, The Richter, Brantley’s 259 Bar, Cibolo Creek Brewing, Free Roam Brewing, Las Guitarras Restaurant, Pure Country BBQ and Grill, Salvador Dobbs and Tusculum Brewery. Paul said he thinks those venues will be invited back to participate in May, as well as a few others, including on Main Plaza.

“This is something we’d like to see, and it’s great for local musicians, too, giving them a venue and the exposure they need,” he said.

Expect word to filter out as venues sign on and bands line up to get on those stages, he said.
