Comfort basketball teams battle Buffaloes

The Comfort High basketball teams visited Florence Tuesday as they continued district action.

It was mixed results as the Deer lost to the Lady Buffs, while the boys picked up a big win.

Both CHS teams were home Friday to host Blanco and then visit Ingram Tuesday as part of a doubleheader.

Varsity Girls

The Deer lost to Florence, 32-23, and slips to 1-5 in district and 7-15 overall.

Comfort hosted Blanco Friday and has three left after that. They’ll visit Ingram Tuesday, play at Llano next Friday and then visit Brady on Feb. 4 to close out the regular season.

Tuesday’s game was a defensive struggle and Comfort was in single digits all four quarters, while Florence only hit double digits once and that was in the second when they outscored the Deer, 16-3, to take a 20-12 lead into halftime.

Florence outscored the Deer by a point in the second half, 12-11, to get the 9-point win.

Jaelyn Ruelas led the Deer with 6 points, Jael Hernandez added 5, Tindall Ahrens had 4, Molly Gowan and Alexa Lozano both netted 3, while Zoe Rodriguez and Jackie Robledo hit 1 free throw apiece.

Gowan grabbed 9 rebounds and Hernandez recorded 3 steals and 2 assists.

Comfort’s lone win in district came in the first round against Florence.

Varsity Boys

The Comfort boys defeated Florence, 76-41. They’ll close out the first round of district action Friday by hosting Blanco.

CHS opens the second round of league play on Tuesday at Ingram and then hosts Llano next Friday.

The Bobcats are 3-1 in district and 16-10 overall.
