Former Charger Goldberg to suit up for Alamo Bowl with Buffs

It’ll be a homecoming of sorts for Boerne Champion graduate Gage Goldberg, who will suit up for the University of Colorado this weekend in the Alamo Bowl.

Goldberg played his high school football right down the road in Boerne for the Chargers and graduated last year. Goldberg, who was also a baseball player for Champion, signed with the University of Colorado football team last spring and is a freshman on this year’s squad.

The 2024 Alamo Bowl pits the Colorado Buffaloes ( 9- 3) against the BYU Cougars (10-2) and features Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter from Colorado.

The game is Saturday at 6:30 p.m. and will be broadcast on KSAT 12, the local ABC affiliate.

The Buffs arrived in San Antonio on Monday to prepare for Saturday’s game.

According to the Colorado website, Gage had a cousin, David Goldberg, who played for CU from 2009-11.

The CU website also mentions that Gage is the son of WWE Hall of Fame wrestler Bill Goldberg, who played with Buffs coach Deion Sanders in the NFL when they were with the Atlanta Falcons.
