Elizabeth Leachman is now a two-time Foot Locker national champion after she defended the title she won in 2023.

The Boerne Champion junior posted a time of 17:31.1 this past Saturday at Balboa Park in San Diego for back-to-back titles.

Leachman battled injuries and respiratory issues in the fall, so there was less certainty heading into Saturday’s race. Early at the competition, Leachman was sitting near 30th place but worked her way to the front before finishing with a strong kick to clock in at 17:31.1, beating the second-place runner, Victoria Garces, who posted a 17:39.9.

Garces edged out Leachman the previous week at the Nike Cross Nationals in Oregon for second place by less than a second.

Leachman did a question- and-answer session about her health, last week’s race and her training over the holidays as she transitions to the track season.
