BOERNE -- Three members of one family died Tuesday in a head-on collision in the 7600 block of Texas 46 West about 5 miles from Boerne.

All three passengers in a blue Toyota Corolla -- Pipe Creek residents Roger Louis Waid, 50, Patricia Ann Waid, 53, and Blake Lynn Waid, 14 -- were pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the other vehicle, a Ford F-250, was rushed to a San Antonio hospital. There has been no update on his condition.

The 911 call came in at 7:46 p.m. Tuesday. A witness told police a truck, possibly an F-250, was passing other vehicles on the two-lane stretch of road before slamming into the Waid vehicle, which was in its lane.

First responders arrived to find the Toyota Corolla off the road in a ditch, with the truck driver and a passenger outside their vehicle. Originally, reports told of two people trapped in the Toyota, but responders found all three, with only one reported conscious and responsive.

First responders removed all three from the car by 8:13 p.m., with one individual being declared dead. Officials reported a second fatality at 8:36 p.m. while responders were performing CPR on the third. Officials confirmed the third fatality on the scene at 8:56 p.m.

The Texas Department of Public Safety issued a release Wednesday, stating that a Ford F-250 Super Duty traveling west, collided head on with the Toyota Corolla traveling east. The truck's driver, a 58-year-old male, was rushed to University Hospital with injuries. All three occupants of the Corolla were pronounced deceased on scene and next of kin notified.

There was no word of which of the Waid couple was driving the car, or of the truck driver's current condition.

Owners of The Hen's Nest in Bandera posted of their shock and dismay over losing Patricia Waid, an employee there.

"The Hen's Nest crew is in shock and mourning over the loss of one of our own," the post stated. "(Patricia Waid), her husband and daughter lost their lives yesterday. We are praying for her family and friends and their souls as they meet our Father.

"In the blink of an eye the world changes. Always let them know you love them," the post concludes.

Bandera Independent School District released a statement today expressing grief and sorrow for the family, as Blake Waid was a member of the Bandera Middle School basketball and volleyball teams in 2023.

"It is with deep sadness that we inform you of the passing of one of our students. This is an unimaginable loss for our entire school community and our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends during this difficult time," the statement read.

The DPS investigation is ongoing, said Sgt. Orlando De Luna Jr. of the Texas Highway Patrol. More details would be made available when the investigation is complete.

These guys flying down Hwy 46 and passing on the hills, curves and in no passing zones is so very common on that road. It’s scary. They have no regard for others and it’s terrorizing to be caught in their vicinity. I experience this act by someone almost every time I drive to Boerne.
