Champion boys clinch spot at regional water polo tourney, Lady Chargers also advance to the event

The Boerne Champion boys water polo team has joined the girls team at this weekend’s regional tournament after the Charger boys defeated Churchill in their third-round playoff match Tuesday.

The Lady Chargers secured their spot at the regional tourney with a 14-7 win Monday over Clark.

This year’s regional tourney is at the Southwest ISD Aquatics Center. The Champion boys played Friday against Brennan and the girls tangled with Harlan, also on Friday.

Friday’s winners advance to the finals Saturday and Saturday’s winners advance to the state tournament next weekend at Josh Davis Natatorium.

The Champion boys are 21-4 overall and the Lady Chargers are 20-6 entering this weekend’s tourney.

Varsity Boys

Julius Hoxhaj led the team with 8 points and 2 assists, Will Harrison tallied 6 goals and 2 assists, Bexon Harrison recorded 6 goals and 4 assists, Owen Altermatt finished with 3 assists and a goal, while Ethan Altermatt, Aaron Mendoza, Grant Perkins and Jorge Almaguer all netted 1 goal each.

Mendoza and Bexon Harrison both recorded 4 steals, while Jackson Hankins came up with 9 saves in goal and Bernardo Gonzalez added 2 saves.

Varsity Girls

In Monday’s 14-7 win over Clark, Ana Metz recorded 5 goals, Cameron Kellogg, Karly Whitehead and Bennett Rice all scored 2 goals, while Cayden Van-Dyne, Kate Deykin and Cora Skoog netted 1 goal apiece.

VanDyne, Skoog and Kellogg all tallied 2 assists and VanDyne collected 4 steals and while in goal, she came up with 7 saves for the Chargers.
