Crestmont Christian Prep’s freshman, Peyton Blyth, took first place at the 2024 Steve Golemon Bandera Cross Country Invitational last weekend, running an impressive 5:24 average pace and finished the 5K race in a time of 16:47.
After taking second place previously at the Patriot Invitational for a shorter race distance, Blyth was looking forward to a longer race to challenge himself. He not only met that challenge but thoroughly dominated the field of 85, beating the second-place runner by over two minutes.
The race took a humorous turn when both Blyth and Coach Jack White realized Blyth didn’t have on his race bib needed for official timing.
With help from the Crestmont team and family members, White was able to meet his runner near the end of the race and even took a surprise video of the exchange.
Crestmont Cross Country team members will be on the course next at TMI on Sept. 21.
