Greyhounds pound on Panthers, 31-7

The Boerne High football team picked up its first road win of the season after the Greyhounds visited Castroville to take on Medina Valley.

The Greyhounds sprinted out to a fast start and went up 21-0 in the first quarter before claiming the 31-7 victory.

The Greyhounds are 2-1 overall and are home Friday at Boerne ISD Stadium to host East Central for their 2024 homecoming game.

The homecoming parade is Monday and the game kicks off Friday at 7 p.m. Friday’s contest with the Hornets closes out non-district action for the Hounds. They’ll open league play the following week at Alamo Heights on Sept. 27 in a meeting of the two district favorites.

Greyhound quarterback Hank Hendrix spread the ball around and tossed four touchdowns to three different receivers.

Brooks Perez tallied two of those receiving touchdowns in the first half, while Will Traylor and Ben Bays both hauled in TD passes and found the end zone in the first half as well to give the Greyhounds a 28-0 lead at the break.

In the third quarter, BHS kicker Diego Jimenez booted a field goal to bump the lead to 31-0, to go with his four extra points.

The Panthers were finally able to get on the board in the second half to take away the shutout.

Medina Valley set up in Greyhounds territory after an interception and the Panthers didn’t waste any time taking advantage of the turnover.

The Panthers handed off to Dezerin Wright who scored on the first play after the pick to put the Panthers on the board and make the score 31-7.

The Greyhounds were driving late in the game and had a chance at another score but called off the dogs deep in Medina Valley territory and just ran out the clock.
