The Lady Chargers volleyball team took a break from district play and tangled with Madison last Friday.
Madison won the first set, 25-22, but the Lady Chargers rebounded to win the next three, 25-20, 25-19, 25-23.
Champion is 23-4 overall and returned to district play Tuesday when the Lady Chargers hosted Alamo Heights.
On Friday, Champion will make the short drive to Boerne High and play the Lady Greyhounds for the first time in district history.
In last Friday’s match vs. the Mavs, Ella Coleman continued her stellar season and finished with 20 kills, while Brielle Boothe added 12 kills, Taylor Fenton tallied 10 kills and Cassidy Breuer had 8 kills.
Samantha Calderon served it well and dropped in 4 aces and Boothe added 2 aces, Fenton led the team in blocks with 5, Briley Wolff added 4 blocks, while Azteca Crawford and Breuer both chipped in with 3 blocks.
Calderon finished with 21 digs, Coleman registered 20 digs, Crawford tallied 16 digs and Boothe came up with 13 digs, while Crawford had a busy night in the assist department and recorded 47 of the team’s 54 assists.
