Boerne resident Jason Tabansky knocked off the world’s top ranked para-archer to claim gold at the 2024 Paralympics Games in France.
Tabansky won the W1 archery competition over No. 1 ranked Han Guifei of China in the gold medal match.
“I was here to perform and thankful to God I was able to make it all the way to the end and have a gold medal around my neck,” the army veteran told Stars and Stripes immediately after winning gold.
Tabansky entered the Olympics ranked No. 3 in the world in his classification and was the sixth seed after preliminaries.
From there, he beat Eugenio Santana Franco of Brazil, the world’s No. 2 ranked shooter with a score of 137-122.
In the next round, Tabansky faced David Drahoninsky from the Czech Republic and won, 136-115.
Up next, Tabansky won the W1 archery competition with a 134-131 victory over Han Guifei of China in the gold medal match.
Tabansky also competed with Tracy Otto in the mixed team competition.
There will be a ceremony to celebrate Tabansky’s gold medal on Wednesday, Sept. 11, at Veterans Plaza, 5 p.m.
