Champion water teams open district with matches against Brandeis, Health Careers

SAN ANTONIO – Boerne Champion opened district water polo season with a pair of matches last Saturday at Northside.

The Chargers took on Health Careers and Brandeis and the Champion boys easily won their two matches, while the girls split their two tough matches.

Both Champion girls and boys teams took on Boerne High Tuesday. The Charger boys were going to play a match with Alamo Heights to get in another match.

The Lady Chargers defeated Health Careers, 7-4, and then dropped a close one to Brandeis, last year’s regional champs, 4-3.

Champion is 9-5 overall and 1-1 in district.

The contest with Brandeis was a rematch of a game played the previous weekend at the Texas Cup tournament where the Chargers won, 8-7.

The two evenly-matched squads meet again on Sept. 16 in the second round of district.

On the boys side, the Chargers rolled past Health Careers, 25-8, and then beat Brandeis, 20-12.

Champion is 10-4 overall and 2-0 in district.
