The Boerne Champion cross country team looked impressive in its first meet of the year.
The Chargers ran at the Westlake Chaparral Invitational last weekend and had the top two individual champions in the varsity division after Charlie Houck and Elizabeth Leachman won their respective events.
The varsity boys won their race and the girls were second.
Champion ran this weekend in the FEAST Patriot Invitational.
Varsity Boys
The Charger boys easily ran away with first place after they scored 71 points in the field of 29 teams.
Champion distanced themselves from second- place College Station (146) and third place Austin Bowie (154).
Houck edged Griffin Hummel of Austin Bowie by less than three seconds for first place after Houck posted a 15:36.20 and Hummel crossed the finish line in a time of 15:38.70.
Caleb Dehart clocked in at 16:00.40 for 8th, Luis Tovar ran a 16:05.50 for 10th, Shawn Edwards finished 13th with a time of 16:15.30, Mason Nelson recorded a 17:06 for 40th, Noah Moreno ran a 17:34.80 for 65th and Brandon Martinez rounded out the team with a time of 17:46.10 for 72nd.
Varsity Girls
The Lady Chargers finished second in the team standings and had the top runner after Leachman won the race.
Smithson Valley took the team title with 53 points, followed by Champion at 71 points and College Station A&M Consolidated came in third with 45 points in the field of 21 teams.
Leachman beat the field with a time of 16:32.50, nearly two minutes ahead of the second-place finisher, Brady Solansky of Smithson Valley, who turned in an 18:13.30.
Kynley Albright crossed the finish line in 19:34.90 for 8th, Rebecca Bezerra clocked in at 19:55.80 for 13th, Addison Graham was two spots back in 15th with 20:03.50 and Luciana Zazueta Ibarra posted a time of 20:14.20 for 18th.
Madison Mungia ran a 21:18.30 for 47th and Payton Baldwin came in 71st with a time of 22:20.90.
