Boerne Champion, Boerne High and Comfort opened their cross-country seasons last week at the Antler Rust Buster in Kerrville.
Boerne stepped up to 5A, which means their girls have to run 5Ks instead of two miles, while the Chargers rested their varsity and treated it as a JV meet.
The event used adjusted scoring, meaning runners not on complete teams are removed from the team scores.
Boerne High Boys
The BHS boys won the Gold race with 33 points and placed its scoring five in the top 11 spots.
Carsten Bain was 2nd in 16:36, Aaron Garcia placed 5th in 16:53, Barrett Crofut and Jackson Temple went 8-9 after both posted times of 17:06 and Valor Menn finished 11th with a 17:13.
Ben Macias ran an 18:33 for 31st, Ethan Christianson recorded an 18:42 and was 33rd and Braylen Thomason placed 36th in 18:56.
Hunter Prince and Julian Wasel both ran and Prince completed the course in 19:09 and Wasel in 19:10.
Girls
The Boerne girls were 2nd in the 5K with 91 points.
Eleanor Davis, Sophia Karageorge and Penelope Kirk went 13-14-15 after Davis ran a 20:57, Karageorge posted a 21:14 and Kirk clocked in at 21:15.
Kelsey Farar and Genevieve Sengler rounded out the scoring five after Farar posted a 22:02 and Sengler was in at 22:09, while Kiera Sawyer came in 26th in 22:12 and Mahaley Merkins was 28th at 22:25.
Lilly Cox (23:11), Catherine Bailey (23:49) and Mary Marino (24:06) also raced for the BHS girls.
Champion Boys
The Champion boys ran in the Silver race where they were second with 84 points.
Hector Canales was 12th in 19:35, Luke Mitchell came in 13th in 19:35, Pierce Mitchell posted a 19:50 for 15th, Sebastian Carvallo came in 18th in 20:02 and Riley Cooksey rounded out the scoring five after he was 26th in 20:19.
Austin Ronemous came in 39th in 20:58 and Abhiram Bhogireddy finished 41st in 21:09 for Champion’s top seven.
Adan Valez, Colin Copeland, Jacob Esquilin, Aaron Duran, Jake Johnson, Jackson Long, Antoine Madrid, Preston Cook, Christian Betz, Eli Seaman and Auraham Arizola also ran for the Chargers.
Girls
The Champion girls ran in the 3200 race instead of the normal 5K with mostly a JV squad just like the boys did.
Elena Duran was 3rd in 13:25, Michelle Cerna came in 7th in 13:33, Abigail Clark posted a 13:40 for 9th, Alina Crowell finished 17th in 14:19, Isabella Kruzel and Maelee Mares went 34 and 35 with times of 14:50 and 14:52, Tina Pham posted a 15:41, while Leyna Ossio (18:06) and Emma Radtke (18:14) also ran.
Comfort Boys
Comfort finished 11th in the Silver race with 310 points and beat 6A Stevens.
Ruben Breceda led the Bobcats after he was 29th in 20:37, Preston Tomlin was 63rd in 23:11, Luke Reich posted a 24:32 for 70th, Hunter Bradshaw came in 73rd in 24:57, Josiah Rucker finished in 25:42 for 75th and Adam Onofre rounded out the team at 83rd with a 29:22.
Girls
The Deer tallied 228 points for 8th place.
Ella Thiele had the team’s highest finish after she was 6th in 13:30, Lexie Womble came in 24th in 14:38, Juana Leon finished in 16:07 for 59th, Olivia Sanchez posted a 16:31 for 65th, Gretchen Alford ran a 17:42 for 74th, Valeria Leon clocked in at 17:52 for 76th and Jasmine Rodriguez was 81st in 18:19, while Savannah Pizana (18:46) and Cheyanne Wilson (19:00) rounded out the team.
