The Boerne Champion water polo teams kicked off their 2024 season last weekend and were entered in the Waterpolooza Tournament in San Antonio.
It was a solid showing by both the boys and girls squads that went a combined 9-3 at the event and finished within the top five.
Both Charger teams play at the Texas Cup Tournament in Lewisville next.
Boys
The Champion boys finished second at the event and went 4-2 with both losses coming to Clear Creek, the last in the championship game.
The Chargers beat Taft, 21-9, beat Johnson 16-14, knocked off Strake Jesuit, 20-11, with 10 of those goals coming from Bexon Harrison. They also beat Hebron 17-12.
Champion lost to Clear Creek 18-15 and then met them again in the finals and were defeated by CC, 15-12, for the tourney title.
The Chargers are 4-2 overall and play again Thursday at the Lewisville tourney.
Girls
The girls actually had a better record than the boys team and went 5-1 overall for fifth place. They won their pool but lost their crossover match into the semifinals.
Champion beat Taft, 9-7, beat Johnson, 11-8,beat Clear Creek, 6-4 and then lost to Harlan, 10-2.
The Chargers bounced back to beat Clark, 11-6, and then in the fifth-place match, they defeated Westwood, 12-5.
