The Boerne softball team finally had the chance to play a full seven innings in a district game when the Lady Greyhounds visited Fredericksburg.
BHS had run ruled its first three 28-4A opponents but the Battlin’ Billies put up more of a fight however it wasn’t enough to stop the Lady Greyhounds from recording a 6-2 win.
Boerne is 17-4 overall and 4-0 in district. The Hounds host Wimberley on Friday.
Fred was the only team in 28-4A to beat the Lady Hounds last year, but BHS took Tuesday’s first district meeting thanks to dual threat Ava Rodriguez who started the game with a home run and was also the winning pitcher.
Rodriguez homered in the second to help Boerne go up 2-0. The Hounds added another run in the third and 2 more in the fifth. Reese Wilson also went yard and knocked out a 2-run shot in the fifth for the 5-0 lead before Fred could get on the board.
The Billies scored a single run in the bottom of the fifth, but the Hounds answered with a run in the sixth for the 6-1 lead. Fred added another run in the bottom of the sixth with a home run of its own, but that’s where it stayed after neither team scored in the seventh.
BHS had 11 hits and 5 went for extra bases, but they also were struck out 13 times in the game.
Besides the solo homer, Rodriguez picked up 2 RBI; Wilson also singled with her 2-run home run and scored twice, while Madi Dorrow, Taryn Madlock and Heidi Maytum all doubled, with Maytum picking up an RBI.
