Lawrence excited, ready to be new Greyhound volleyball coach

Staci Lawrence will soon start her tenure as the new Boerne High volleyball coach.

Lawrence assumes the position that was held by Tisha Pettibon for 15 years. Pettibon was hired in the fall of 2009 from Comfort High and recently took a job in Bandera.

Lawrence was hired from a school in Massachusetts where she had a lot of success and won three consecutive state titles at Ipswich High School, but said she was ready to move to Texas and be closer to family in Bandera.

Lawrence was in Boerne recently for a meet and greet at the Rock House.

“It’s been nice to meet the kids and meet the parents and get the Boerne vibe,” she said. “I’m loving it so far, can’t wait to get started this summer.”

The Massachusetts school that Lawrence is leaving doesn’t finish until mid-June but Lawrence will make the move at the end of the month and plans to be in Boerne for strength and conditioning workouts in July.

Lawrence said she’s excited to be coaching in Texas and to be closer to her family.

“It fits what we want for our future and it’s a bonus that my family lives in Bandera. I’m very excited to be by my side of the family and be here in Texas,” she said. “I’ve got my parents moving to Bandera and my twin brother and his family live there too, so we’re going to be a lot closer to family, which I haven’t lived by family since 2015.”

Lawrence said she coaches with a lot of energy and wants it to rub off on the kids.

“I like to think I bring a lot of passion to the way that I coach and I hope that I bring that out in the kids too,” she said. “I’m competitive but I’m fun loving and enjoy the game so I hope when you come watch our Boerne games, that you’ll see some good volleyball and see kids who love the game and put 110 percent effort into everything they do.

“Whether it comes out in our favor or not, they’re going to be giving everything they have on that court,” Lawrence added.

Lawrence said she’s ready to get going and wishes it was August so they can start their season.

“I’m so excited,” she said. “I can’t wait to get going.”
