CELEBRATING THE ARTS
Join the Artists of Carriage House Gallery from 4-7 p.m. Saturday and experience the evolution of photographer Darryl Patrick as he tells of his growth into better equipment and an expanded view of the world around us.
Enjoy wine, light bites and the opportunity of stimulating conversation during the gallery’s “Kick Off To Summer” event, open and free to the public at 110 Rosewood Ave. in Boerne.
The visual journey begins in Darryl’s early years on the family’s Montana farm. He was then just a young boy who had discovered the thrill of an easy plastic camera.
Darryl saved his allowance money to buy film and was fascinated with the challenge of capturing a moment in time.
At the next stop on our adventure, Darryl is 26 and been given the opportunity to teach for the Department of Defense on a military base on the island of Sicily. His mind was challenged by the vast expanse of civilization and history. Here he photographed unique views, for his students, of important art and architecture.
Decades later, now with a master’s degree in art history and technology improving the capabilities of cameras, Darryl’s personal creative expression growing exponentially. He now had access to the past that would influence the future of his art.
His purpose became not only to document, but to create art — priorities were composition, design, color and perspective. And in this moment, his knowledge of culture, photography and art came together.
