THE BOOKWORM
Our summer programs are designed to entertain, inform and spark engaging discussions. Join our recurring discussion groups, each with an adventurous twist, and explore new ideas in a dynamic setting.
This June and July, we are thrilled to present “Armchair Adventures,” special programs featuring clever adventurers and entrepreneurs.
Teens and their families can enjoy adventure movies and participate in “Pirate Patrick’s Lost Loot @ PHPL” Escape Rooms. To encourage summer reading, teens can pick up a “Reading Passport” to track their progress.
Early literacy is vital for a child’s development, so we’ve created a variety of fun and educational programs for children and their families. Our beloved storytimes will continue, though some may be on different days than usual.
Don’t miss our spectacular kickoff event June 3 and our grand closing extravaganza on July 22.
For a complete schedule of events, check out our brochure and web calendar at boernelibrary.org. Join us for a summer filled with learning and adventure.
Killer crafts
Our monthly crime-podcast program, during which attendees listen and work on their own crafts, will feature an adventure-themed murder during the months of June and July. If you don’t have a craft to work on, have no fear — we will provide crafts for you.
The event takes place the second Wednesday of each month. Join us at 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 12, for the first episode, and Wednesday, July 10, to hear the second and final part.
We assure you that this is a fascinating program that promotes some spirited discussions amongst the participants.
‘Food for Fines’ drive
Lift up your less fortunate neighbors this summer while clearing your account at the same time.
During the month of June we encourage you to bring in one non-perishable item for each dollar you owe in overdue fines. Everything that is donated will be given to Hill Country Family Services.
Their current wish list includes canned fruit, adult diapers-large, jelly or jam, canned mixed veggies, pasta or noodles, and reusable grocery bags.
You are not tied to this list, but please consider these items when shopping. If you do buy a container of adult diapers, we will wipe more than $1 from your balance.
Thank you for helping us build a stronger community.
History highlight
Join the Kendall County Historical Commission and the library at 10 a.m. June 8 in our community room for a fascinating presentation by Frank Graves titled “The Colt Revolver’s Importance to Early Texas History.”
Graves, who began collecting antique firearms at the age of 12, has since become a prominent figure in the field. He has written numerous articles and co-authored several books on the subject.
Graves has held prestigious positions such as president of the Texas Gun Collectors Association and director of the American Society of Arms Collectors. His exceptional firearms displays have garnered top awards from the Texas Gun Collectors Association, the American Society of Arms Collectors, the Colt Collectors Association, and the National Rifle Association.
Following the program, the KCHC will unveil the Battle of Walker’s Creek display in our gallery. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to learn from an expert and explore a fascinating piece of history. For details, contact Bryden Moon at: [email protected].
We need book donations
The Bookshop Under the Windmill, located next to the library, is run totally by volunteers with the Friends of the Boerne Public Library. The Friends need gently used books, including children’s books, puzzles with all the pieces, CDs and movies.
They don’t accept audio or video cassettes. Please drop off your donated items at the library during business hours. The Friends sort and price the books in our location before taking them to the shop. All proceeds benefit the library.
