LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

Rep. Troxclair and ‘The Contract’

Editor, “The Contract With Texas” was spearheaded by the most conservative members of our Texas House, with the goal of decentralizing the power of the speaker thus giving it back to the representatives elected by “We the People,” to do the will of the voter, not the speaker/lobbyists.

Wonder why Rep. Ellen Troxclair (R-Lakeway) has not signed on? Too many backroom deals from all those donors/endorsements? Too much personal ambition?

In my experience and others, the Troxclair and staff custom, is that they do not directly answer questions from constituents, or they just don’t answer at all.

I have repeatedly asked if she has signed on to the “Contract With Texas,” but to no avail.

Please take this opportunity to call-email-send a postcard to Dist. 19 Rep. Troxclair with two simple questions: When will you sign the Contract With Texas? If not, why?

She can be reached at: Rep. Ellen Troxclair, P.O. Box 2910, Austin, TX 78768; [email protected]. gov; or call 512-463-0490 to speak with Troxclair Communcations Director Catherine Van Arnman.

In liberty and justice for all.

Why did Abbott release a calculated killer?

Editor, I am appalled at Gov. Greg Abbott’s May 16 pardon of convicted murderer Daniel Perry.

The jury at Perry’s trial voted unanimously to convict him; he was then sentenced to 25 years in prison.

Is Abbott against the rule of law? The victim, Garrett Foster, was legally open carrying a rifle, which was pointed down, and had the safety on. Is Abbott against the legal possession of a firearm?

Garrett Foster, a former U.S. Air Force mechanic, was protesting in a legal and peaceful way. Is Greg Abbott against free speech?

Perry intentionally sped through a red light and accelerated into a group of protestors. Does Greg Abbott believe driving laws should be obeyed? Does he value pedestrian safety, even when those exercising their First Amendment rights are annoying?

Evidence presented at the trial shows that Perry had been researching a way he could kill a protestor. Does Abbott recognize that premeditation is a serious factor in a murder charge?

“Stand Your Ground” laws were cited in the pardon, but there was no evidence Foster pointed his gun or acted dangerously. Who was the real aggressor in this situation?

Although it’s not related to the murder, court records reveal that Perry sent an inappropriate message to an underage girl trying to become her “boyfriend.” Did Abbott just release a potential child predator? Why?

In 2023, 78.53% of Kendall County voters selected Abbott for Texas governor. I encourage any of you to respond to my letter and explain why the governor’s unprecedented action was the right thing to do.
