BOERNE -- Kacie Lynn Paulk Thursday was sentenced to 4 years in prison for embezzling more than $60,000 from her former employer, Brady's Auto Repair.
Working as office manager at Brady's Auto Repair, Paulk allegedly misappropriated approximately $60,839 from the company by forging 57 checks drawn from the company’s bank account, made payable to herself. These unauthorized checks were issued and deposited over a period from July 7, 2022 to January 17, 2024.
Paulk was sentenced in the 451st Judicial District Court by Judge Kirsten Cohoon,
The investigation began Jan. 6, 2024, when Brady's owner Mark Belden reported to Boerne Police the discovery of a forged check. Further investigation revealed Paulk's fraudulent activity included numerous checks made out to Paulk that were deposited into her personal bank account. Belden confirmed he was the only authorized signer on the business account and had not authorized the checks to Paulk.
The pre-sentencing investigation report detailed Paulk's prior criminal history, which included a conviction for forgery of a financial instrument in the 105th Judicial District Court in Corpus Christi, Texas, on Jan. 11, 2006. The report indicated Paulk had a total of seven felony convictions.
Kendall County Adult Probation Officer Paul Saldivar recommended Paulk be sentenced to six years’ confinement in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Institutional Division. During the sentencing hearing, Paulk sought probation. Considering the severity of the offense, the financial loss to the victim, and Paulk's felonious history, Cohoon imposed a four-year sentence.
The case was investigated by the Boerne Police Department and prosecuted by Assistant Kendall County Criminal District Attorney Alessandra Deike.
