Greyhounds have three entries at 4A state tournament
SAN ANTONIO – The Boerne High tennis program sent four athletes in three events to this year’s 4A state tennis tourney and one of the entries – Owen Labay – returned to Boerne with a state medal.
Labay won his state quarterfinals match against Cooper Womack of Marble Falls, 2-6, 6-4, 6-1 to advance to the state semifinals.
In the semis later that day, Labay was defeated by Emilio Rodriguez of Lindale in straight sets, 6-3, 6-0, to give Labay a bronze medal.
Rodriguez plays Malcolm Moore of Dallas Pinkston in the 4A finals Friday.
Also at state for the Greyhounds, Justin Barraza was opposite of Labay in the boys singles bracket and lost to Kaden Slider of Robinson, 6-2, 6-2, to get knocked out in the quarterfinals. Slider was defeated in the next round.
In boys doubles, Boerne’s Ben Rowe and Nick Dube challenged Carson Lajone and Charleston Sanders from Willis Point.
Lajone and Sanders claimed the match, 6-4, 7-5, and lost in the next round, the state semis.
