Many people view mental health awareness as helping people recognize when and where to go if they are experiencing a mental health crisis or issue. This is very important and has greatly improved over the last few years.
At Hill Country Daily Bread Ministries, we walk with families we serve to connect them to the proper resources when they face these difficult situations.
We know that the problems start way before the crisis and want to be part of the solution earlier in a person’s life.
Our work focuses on two key components to help people find relief from their situations. We work to alleviate food insecurity and improve social connections through our partner churches and mentors.
Food insecurity and stress go hand in hand. When a person does not know where their next meal comes from or feel shame for relying on food assistance programs or having to acquire food in socially unacceptable ways it increases their anxiety and stress levels.
What is known is that as food insecurity becomes more severe, depression also becomes more severe. It is a vicious cycle that must end.
We work with families to provide those resources to reduce their stress, introduce them to a God who loves them that wants to free them from their shame, and give them a place that is a refuge when life feels overwhelming.
Loneliness is far more than just being isolated. It has been shown to be harmful for both the individual and social health of a person.
It is associated with a greater risk of disease, depression, and anxiety. Social connection is a fundamental human need. It is essential to survival as food, water, and shelter.
Our work creates bridges between those that are experiencing social isolation with those that offer hope and connection through Christ centered churches. We work to partner families with mentors that become friends and walk with families on the difficult road out of poverty.
These mentors invite people to participate in community events, church events and everyday life with them to create a natural point of social connection.
Our goal is that we can give families hope through our programs to find the courage to take on life’s challenges.
