The Geneva School of Boerne softball squad won a wild playoff opener Wednesday afternoon when the Eagles traveled to the Houston area to play Bay Area Christian.
Geneva was trailing 9-6 when the seventh inning started but batted through the lineup twice as they tallied 16 runs in the top of the frame for the 22-9 advantage.
The Eagles smacked two home runs during their rally.
BAC still had last bats and scored 5 runs but not enough to catch the Eagles team that went on to win the contest, 22-14.
Geneva coach Tim Millage said a Trinity Cloud 3-run homer in the seventh was the turning point. When Cloud came up to bat, the Eagles were trailing, 7-9, but after her homer, Geneva was up 10-9 and never looked back.
“It was the biggest hit of the game. We had an unbelievable 16-run, 7th-inning led by Trinity Cloud’s 3-run home run,” Millage said. “It was a super team effort throughout the lineup.”
Geneva finished with 26 hits and outhit Bay Area Christian, 26-12.
Kate Friesenhahn went 6 for 6 at the plate with 2 RBI and 4 runs scored, Madeline Egbert finished 2 for 3, walked twice and smacked a 2-run home run in the 7th as part of Geneva’s rally, while Maggie Chisholm finished 4 for 5 at the plate and drove in 3 runs.
Egbert picked up the win from the circle to help the Eagles improve to 5-14 overall.
Geneva plays Holy Cross next. Details TBD.
