The Geneva School of Boerne baseball team closed out the regular season Tuesday by defeating Schertz John Paul II and finished as co-district champs with Holy Cross.
Geneva won Tuesday’s contest over JP II, 16-3, and is 18-6 overall and tied Holy Cross at 7-1 in district.
Holy Cross won their first meeting at home, 6-5, and the Eagles took their second-round contest in Boerne, 1-0.
The Eagles and Knights flipped a coin to decide seeding this week and Geneva won the flip and will get the No. 1 seed.
Geneva opens the playoffs Tuesday at home by hosting Hill Country Christian, 7 p.m.
Despite the score, Schertz JP II kept it close for most of the game and was leading 2-0 through four innings but the Eagles flew away with the win after they scored 11 in the fifth and another 5 runs in the sixth to kick in the mercy rule after the Centurions only scored another run in fifth to get its 3 runs.
In the two innings that Geneva scored its 16 runs, they sent 26 batters to the plate.
The Eagles finished with 11 hits in the game, including four doubles and two triples.
Cannon Menn hit one of those triples to go with 2 singles and he scored a run and collected 5 RBI.
Brady Chandler tripled and singled, picked up 2 RBI and scored 3 runs, Bryce Hanover doubled, drove in a run and scored, Gray Bruner doubled and scored twice, Rooster Jons doubled, scored and picked up an RBI and Shawn George doubled and singled, pushed in a run and scored twice.
Colton Lutz singled, had an RBI and scored 2 runs, Jake Roberson walked, picked up an RBI and scored 2 runs and Grant Roberson walked and scored 2 runs.
Jake Roberson went 5 innings, gave up 7 hits, 2 earned runs, 2 walks and struck out 5, while Menn tossed an inning and yielded a hit, no runs or walks and sat down 1 batter.
