The Boerne softball team had a start, stop and then restart with the Canyon Lake softball team and the restart didn’t help the Lady Hounds too much.
BHS was trailing when the game was halted because of weather on Tuesday. The Boerne girls played better once they restarted the game Thursday but it wasn’t enough to make up the difference.
The Lady Greyhounds fell to the Lady Hawks, 9-4, and only had one run when the game was halted but did score 3 in its final at bat.
Boerne drops to 4-4 in district 15-15-1 overall. They hosted Fredericksburg Friday and visit Wimberley Tuesday to close out the regular season.
Canyon Lake was leading 7-0 by the end of the third but the Lady Greyhounds scored a run in the fourth inning to make it 7-1.
The Hawks plated 2 more in the bottom of the fifth to open up a 9-1 advantage, but the Lady Hounds went down swinging.
Boerne accounted for 4 of their 8 hits in the seventh and scored 3 runs to close the gap at 9-4 but couldn’t get any closer.
Ava Renteria was solid at the plate and hit 2 triples and a double, drove in 2 runs and scored once, Payton Dyal knocked out a double and a single, picked up an RBI and scored once, Taylor Wilson singled and scored, Breanna Krause singled, while Lizzy Thornton singled and scored.
Dyal tossed 1.2 innings and gave up 4 hits, 4 runs, 3 walks and struck out 4, while Jesseanna Aguirre went 4.1 innings and yielded 2 hits, 3 earned runs, 2 walks and fanned 2.
