Arts, cultural plan needs input from everyone

Editor, Boerne’s biggest ever cultural event occurred when we went total solar. Thousands in Boerne viewed this magical astronomical phenomenon that most will never witness again.

Last week at Boerne’s arts and cultural master plan community meeting participants speculated and dreamed about what Boerne’s cultural amenities future might include.

Boerne’s usual suspects who are involved in all manner of civic endeavors showed, but we noticed most of you were missing. Rich Sena opined about citizenship here in The Boerne Star recently, perfectly timed for a citizens call to action on culture.

Culture carries with it our future in raising our children, exploring new things with our grandchildren or pursuing our own cultural yearnings — creating a quality of life we all aspire to for Boerne.

This gathering also shared information on what we all currently invest in cultural endeavors not currently offered here. It was an impressive snapshot about how much culture means to us.

We all need to be involved in sharing with those who will lead this cultural master plan a piece of our minds on where we should take our cultural landscape.

Public and private enterprise, not-for-profits and private foundation will all be essential in this journey in pursuit of cultural excellence, and your engagement would sure make a difference. We all have a chance to provide our input. I urge you to stay tuned for news about ways to participate. Your input does matter, especially as we begin this journey. I hope you’ll take an hour or so to join in.

Just one more thing — my favorite dream I shared for this cultural plan was an observatory in a remote county natural area, so we can all enjoy those endless splendors of our night sky in all its magnificence, when there’s no sun around ... kind of the way it was midday last week.
