NB Canyon splits season series with Champion softball

New Braunfels Canyon got a little payback on the Champion softball team Friday night.

After the Chargers defeated the Cougarettes in Boerne on March 12, NBC returned the favor last Friday and defeated Champion in New Braunfels to split their season series.

NB Canyon won 15-0, drops Champion to 10-11-2 overall and 4-6 in district. The Chargers visited Kerrville Tivy Tuesday and host Pieper Friday.

Champion won their first meeting with NB Canyon 11-8 behind 10 hits but only managed 2 base knocks in last Friday’s Dakota Salazar singled in the first and Riley Murrish singled in the second to account for Champion’s only hits and only two base runners.

The Cougarettes scored 3 runs in the first inning and then blew it open with 9 runs in the second for the 12-0 lead.

After neither team scored in the third, NBC plated 3 more in the fourth for the 15-0 lead to kick in the mercy rule.

Canyon recorded 15 hits and took advantage of 4 Charger errors.

Mylie Parker went an inning in the circle, while Lillian Ritchie tossed the remaining 2.2 innings and struck out 1.
