The Boerne Champion softball team played two games during spring break and split the two. Champion defeated NB Canyon Tuesday and was tripped up by Kerrville Tivy Wednesday, with both games in Boerne.

Champion is 8-7-2 overall and 2-2 in district. The Chargers visit Pieper Tuesday.

Vs. NB Canyon

Champion beat NB Canyon, 11-8 on Tuesday and it’s only their second win against the Cougarettes in four seasons.

The Chargers had a fast start and scored 4 runs in the first frame and then added 4 more in the third for the 8-2 lead after NBC tallied 2 runs in the third.

The Cougarettes cut into the lead in the fifth with 3 runs to make it 8-5 but the Chargers answered with 3 in the bottom of the frame to bump the lead to 11-5.

NBC battled to the end and scored 2 in the sixth and another in the seventh to trim the Chargers advantage to three runs at 11-8, but the Champion prevailed.

Champion finished with 9 hits after Torin Tucker singled, walked, scored once and drove in 2 runs, Dakota Salazar walked and scored, Abby Brehmer hit 2 singles, picked up an RBI and scored once, while Lillian Ritchie took 2 walks and scored once.

Mylie Parker knocked out a double and a single, took a walk and scored 3 runs, Alison Kory recorded 3 singles, collected 3 RBI and scored twice, Jaycee Bendele singled, pushed in 2 runs and scored twice, while Ryleigh LaRue walked and drove in a run.

Parker went 2.1 innings in the circle and gave up 3 hits, 3 runs, 2 walks and struck out 3.

Ritchie tossed the final 4.2 frames, scattered 7 hits, yielded 4 earned runs, walked 3 and fanned 3.

Vs. Kerrville Tivy

Tivy shutout the Chargers, 6-0, after Champion struggled at the plate and only managed 2 hits against Antlers pitcher Jordyn Joy, who struck out 14 batters against only 3 walks.

Lillian Ritchie doubled and Madison Coker singled, while Torin Tucker, Abby Brehmer and Bella Mamadaliyev walked in the game.

Ritchie went 4.1 innings in the circle and gave up 7 hits, 2 earned runs, 2 walks and sat down 7.

Mylie Parker tossed 2.2 frames, yielded a hit, 1 earned run, walked 2 and fanned 5 as the two pitching staffs combined for 26 strike outs.
