BHS soccer squads close out first round of district

The Boerne High varsity soccer teams closed out the first round of district play earlier this week and were scheduled to be off Friday. They’ll resume district play next week against Fredericksburg.

The Lady Greyhounds host Fred Monday at Champion, while the boys are on the road against the Battlin’ Billies Tuesday.

Varsity Girls

The Boerne girls battled Wimberley to a 2-2 tie last Monday at Champion.

BHS is 13-1-2 overall and 3-1-1 in district to end the first round.

Davenport leads the district at 4-1, Boerne and Wimberley are tied at 3-1-1, while Canyon Lake is 3-2.

BHS coach Jeremy Shannon said there is a lot of parity in 26-4A this year and any of the teams in the district can beat the other on any given night as evidence by Canyon Lake’s win over first-place Davenport.

In Monday’s match, Bella Pettet and Kailey Stringfellow scored goals for the Boerne girls.

Varsity Boys

The BHS boys continue to play well and stayed unbeaten this year after they defeated Wimberley Tuesday, 4-0.

Boerne is 12-0 overall and 4-0 in district and took its district win streak to 42.

It’s Boerne’s fourth straight shutout in 26-4A and they only gave up one goal in their other district match.

Brett Hettie, Liam Griffiths, Justin Bain and Caleb Benchoff all tallied goal, while Griffiths, Hettie, Hudson Vickery and Elian Arreola all had assists.
