Boerne’s fourth straight league title in football resulted in the Greyhounds dominating this year’s all-district selections.

BHS had 42 football players recognized — and also the coach — as voted upon by the District 14-4A DI coaches.

Eight of the Boerne players earned superlative awards, while Greyhounds coach Che Hendrix was named the Coach of the Year.

As far as superlatives, junior Hutson Hendrix was named District MVP, senior TJ Dement was named Offensive MVP, junior Braden Bays was named Defensive MVP, junior Logan Schram was named Offensive Lineman of the Year, junior Carlos Moreno was named Defensive Lineman of the Year, freshman Hank Hendrix was named Offensive Newcomer of the Year, senior Carson Cooper was named co-Special Teams Player of the Year and senior McCoy Bruce was named co-Utility Player of the Year.

Another 13 Greyhounds were selected to the first team, with one player — Brooks Perez — getting recognized on both sides of the ball.

Offensively, junior Jaxon Baize was a first-team quarterback, senior Corey Snelling was a first-team tight end, junior Adam Hicks was a first-team inside receiver, junior Brooks Perez was a firstteam outside receiver, senior Garrett Portis was a first-team guard and junior Logan Fritcher was a first-team center. Defensively, junior Cole Durham and senior Trendon McCarter were both first-team defensive ends, junior Ryan Hooper was a first-team inside linebacker, senior Javi Benavidez was a first-team outside linebacker, junior Dylan Perez was a first-team cornerback, senior Charlie Stahl was a first-team safety, junior Ty Bush was a first-team punter and Brooks Perez was a first-team return specialist.

Another 13 Greyhounds were selected to the second team.

Senior Michael Igbo was second-team running back, junior Gavin Hankins was a second-team tight end, junior Walker Hill was a second-team inside receiver, senior Carson Coffland was a second-team outside receiver, senior Grady Jackson was a second-team guard, junior Keegan Fischer was a second-team tackle and junior Matthew Garrison was a second-team utility player.

Defensively, sophomore Blake Burkholder was a second-team defensive lineman, senior Weston Klutts was a second-team outside linebacker, senior Javier Martinez was a second-team cornerback, senior Caleb Cloutier and senior Mason Stewart were both second-team safeties and junior Townes Oviedo was a second-team utility player.

The Greyhounds had eight more players named honorable mention.

Junior running back Ivan Perez was an HM running back, senior Lance Cuellar was an HM tight end, senior Zach Rackler was an HM outside receiver and senior Clayton Holland was an HM tackle.

Defensively, senior Stonewall McCracken was an HM defensive lineman, junior Ryan Opielski and junior Cash McPeak were HM defensive ends and senior Woody Goen was an HM cornerback.

After reaching the state championship game in 2022, the Greyhounds were hoping for another deep run in 2023, but injuries slowed them down this year.

Boerne was still good enough to go 5-0 in District 14-4A DI for their fourth straight league title. And all four district titles have come with perfect records in league play.

The Hounds went 10-2 overall and beat Taylor in the opening round of the playoffs before injuries caught up with the team in the second round and they lost to La Vernia, 42-31.

Boerne High’s Hutson Hendrix, Logan Schram and Braden Bays were named all-state by the Texas Sports Writers Association. For more on the three be sure to look in the Boerne Star.
