Drum Tao brings energetic set to Boerne Feb. 27

BOERNE — The dramatic sounds and rhythms of 14 Japanese Taiko drummers, musicians and instruments will fill the Boerne Champion High School auditorium Feb. 27 when Drum Tao takes the stage, the next program in the Boerne Performing Arts’ 12th season.

Visit www. Boerne-PerformingArts.com for tickets ($60, $40, $30; $20 for students) and previews of all the world-class artists appearing in the 2024 season. For questions, call Boerne Performing Arts message line at 830-331-9079.

Stunning in its imagery, energy and artistic expression, Drum Tao performers illustrate the range of Japanese drums complemented by flute, harp and guitar and mastered by the talented and athletic musicians.

Drum Tao celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2023. Since its founding in 1993, Drum Tao has performed for more than nine million spectators in 26 countries.

The company finds its base and inspiration in Oita, Japan, where they train and create their staging, costumes and music that then travel the world. The level of fitness required to perform their athletically demanding playing is exceptional and demonstrates a superb devotion to their craft.

Drum Tao will not only be offering an evening performance but will also participate in a student outreach program that will fill the auditorium with BISD third graders for a special “FOR KIDS” performance. These programs are offered at no charge to the students and are a foundational commitment for Boerne Performing Arts as they host internationally acclaimed artists to enhance exposure to the arts for young audiences.

Champion High School’s chamber choir will perform in the lobby before the show and at intermission, while artwork by Boerne and Champion high school students will be displayed. Concessions will be offered by the orchestra booster organization.
