Generous donations help buy 1,000 coats for Coats for Kids

BOERNE -- Hill Country Daily Bread Ministries reported receiving more than 500 winter coats and jackets for children living in poverty and in need in the Texas Hill Country.

Hill Country Daily Bread Ministries (HCDBM) said this was the sixth year that the St. Peter’s Catholic Church Knights of Columbus Council no. 10940 purchased coats and donated them to HCDBM through its Coats for Kids program.

The money for 500 coats was raised and donated by the non-profit organization, Tour de Boerne. Tour de Boerne is one of the premier bike rides in Texas, with 800 participants this year.

Like the Knights of Columbus, Tour de Boerne is a Christian organization dedicated to giving back to those in the Boerne community who are in need. HCDBM expressed its gratitude that Operation Warm, donated an additional 500 coats.

As such, HCDBM will distribute more than 1,000 coats to children in the Hill Country.

HCDBM enlists dozens and dozens of volunteers to work to ensure each coat included a scripture verse to let each child know they are loved by God.

“The receipt of these winter coats represents more than just clothing; it symbolizes hope, warmth, and the caring spirit of our community,” the agency press release states. “With the growing economic disparities in the area, providing winter coats can be a financial relief for families struggling to make ends meet.

“These coats not only protect children from the frigid temperatures, but they also ease the financial burden on parents who may otherwise have to choose between buying a coat or meeting other essential needs,” the release states.

Keeping children warm during the winter months is not only a matter of comfort but a crucial element of their well-being. HCDBM believes that a warm winter coat can protect them from harsh weather conditions and reduce the risk of illnesses related to cold exposure.

This means fewer sick days and better overall health, allowing children to attend school regularly and engage in outdoor activities that are vital for their physical and emotional development.

HCDBM is committed to ensuring that every child in the Texas Hill Country has access to the basic necessities they need, including warm clothing during the winter. With the support of its donors, the agency expects to make a meaningful difference in the lives of these families and bring warmth, comfort, and hope to their homes.

“As we head into the winter season, we invite you to join us in this vital mission. Your contributions, whether in the form of monetary donations, or volunteer efforts, can help us continue to make a positive impact on the lives of those living in poverty in the Texas Hill Country,” the organization’s release stated.

HCDBM thanks St. Peter’s Catholic Church Knights of Columbus Council no. 10940 for making the coats donations possible. For details on how to get involved in or support HCDBM’s mission, visit www.hillcountrydailybread. org or 830-755-5200.
