Chargers, Greyhounds play for regional titles

Champion defeats rival Alamo Heights for regional title

SAN ANTONIO – The Boerne ISD varsity tennis teams were in action this week in their respective regional tournaments with a chance at the state tournament.

Both won their semifinals matches Thursday in S.A. to advance to the 4A and 5A finals Friday with a berth to the state tournament up for grabs.

Boerne Champion

Champion took on Flour Bluff Thursday in the 5A regional semifinals at the NEISD Blossom courts and handled the Hornets, 10-7.

The Chargers were up 5-2 after doubles and went 5-5 in singles play to get to 10 wins and end it.

Thursday’s victory over Flour Bluff advanced the Chargers to Friday’s regional finals against longtime rival Alamo Heights.

The Mules defeated Mission Sharyland Pioneer in their semifinals match Thursday.

Champion is 16-4 overall entering Friday’s match.

Boerne High

The Greyhounds challenged Devine in the 4A regional semifinals and defeated the Warhorses Thursday at the NS Anne Marie Tennis Center, 10-2.

Boerne was up 5-2 after doubles play and took the first five singles matches on the court to secure the win.

BHS was scheduled to play district foe Wimberley Friday at noon at the Anne Marie courts for the Region IV-4A championship. The Texans defeated Tuloso- Midway in their regional semifinals match.

The Greyhounds are 15-3 overall after Thursday’s win.
