SEPTEMBER 23

• Attend the first annual Karnival 4 Kids Fundraiser benefiting LOVE Kendall County Kids. All funds raised from the event will go directly to Kendall County children in need. This family friendly event will feature approximately 20 game booths, bounce houses, a petting zoo, ample food and drink, and much more.

• Fish Fry: Boerne Volunteer Fire Department, Kendall County Fairgrounds, 4 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. The Boerne Volunteer Fire Department’s Annual Fish Fry Fundraiser is back. The Boerne Fire Department strives to help the community in many forms of emergency services from firefighting, water rescue, high/low angle rescue, motor vehicle extrication and provides public education in the City of Boerne as well as in Kendall County. Funds raised by the event go toward equipment, apparatus and training needs for the year.

• Boerne Duck Derby, Boerne City Lake, 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Add a little extra fun to your day at the lake. Hundreds of adopted rubber ducks will dive into Boerne City Lake and race toward the finish line. Prizes will be awarded for the first 3 ducks to reach the finish line. • Sixth annual Boerne BierFest at The AgriCultural Museum and Arts Center, noon to 6 p.m. Use your commemorative stein to sample from more than 30 of the best craft breweries in Texas and beyond. Boerne BierFest also serves up great food, live music including headliner Gary P. Nunn, traditional feats of strength, art displays, and a live auction -- all benefiting Hill Country Council for the Arts.

• Comedy Night from 7:30-9:30 p.m. at Free Roam Brewing Company, 325 N. Main St. in Boerne. From local comedians to renowned comedians; stop by the brewery and “get your laugh on.” For ages 18-plus only.

• Dog & Pony is hosting a big Oktoberfest celebration this year, from Sept. 29-October 1. A special food menu and a huge selection of Oktoberfest beers will be available, as well as special events and activities. More details to come.

• “Emma, A Pop Musical” opens at the Boerne Community Theater 907 E. Blanco Road. Based on Jane Austen’s classic novel, this sparkling new musical features the hit songs of legendary girl groups and iconic female singers, from The Supremes to Katy Perry. Tickets available at: boernetheater. org.

SEPTEMBER 30

• The Genealogical Society of Kendall County, Texas will recognize descendants from 13 First Families of Kendall County. The First Family Certificates will be awarded at a ceremony that begins at 10:30 a.m. in the Family Life Center at St. John Lutheran Church, 315 Rosewood Ave. A light lunch will be served afterwards. The public is welcome.

• Cibolo Creek Brewery Company marks Oktoberfest with a solid line up of German activities, beer, and food. A DJ will play from 2-5 p.m. and live music follows, from 6:309 p.m. There will be stein-holding, hammerschlagen, and best-dressed contests.

• Join Free Roam Brewing & other local breweries for Hopstrasse September 30 and October 1. The event starts at 11 a.m. and features food trucks, live music, special Oktoberfest beers and more.

• Aloha San Antonio Luau,10:3011:15 a.m. in the Patrick Heath Public Library community room. Enjoy a performance by the renowned Aloha San Antonio performers, featuring an edge-of-your-seat fire dance.

• Moondance, featuring Ruben V, from 7-11 p.m. at the Cibolo Center for Conservation, 140 City Park Road. Pack a picnic and bring a blanket or chairs to the Cibolo Nature Center for some music and fun under the oak trees. Cost is $10 for nonmembers; kids under 10 are free.

UPCOMING EVENTS OCTOBER 7

• Eighth Street Market’s 16th Vintage Flea from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 140 City Park Road in Boerne. More than 30 vendors will participate in their “mini Roundtop.” Vintage, antiques, art, artisans, food and wine.

OCTOBER 12

• Kendall County Republican Club meets at 6 p.m. at the Nelson City Dance Hall. Guest speaker will be Christine Welborn, executive director of Advancing Integrity. Doors open at 5:45 p.m., with a social cash bar 5:45-6:15 p.m. Cost is $30 per person, which includes full dinner and the program. OCTOBER 14

• Friends of the Comfort Volunteer Fire Department will host “Eclipse in the Park” to raise funds for the purchase of a new firefighting vehicle. Live music, food and beverage for purchase, a bouncy house for children and free eclipse glasses. Family- friendly NASA-sponsored activities will take place at the Comfort Public Library. The event is co-sponsored by the Comfort Chamber of Commerce.

• Texas Eclipse Ring of Fire Run, Boerne Main Plaza. 13.1-mile begins at 7:30 a.m., a 10K starts at 8:15 a.m., and the 5-K gets under way at 8:30 a.m. All entries include an after-party, complete with eclipse glasses. Register at www. scallywompus. com.
