Carolyn Jo Harz Goodall (Shotzi) went to be with our Lord on Aug. 31, 2023, at the age of 82. She was born on Sept. 11, 1940, in Boerne, Texas, to Udo Franklin Harz and Lorene Emilie Koerner. She was preceded in death by her parents, her infant son, and grandson, Zachary Wayne Goodall.

Carolyn is survived by her three sons, Mitchel Ross Goodall and wife, Heidi; Dennis Wayne Goodall and wife, Jennifer; and Derek Kyle Goodall; grandchildren: April Campbell and husband Eric, Bonnie Garcia and husband John, Linda Goodall and fiancé Jason Marquis, Heather Goodall, Kyleigh Goddall

Goodall, and Elizabeth Goodall; and four great grandchildren, Bryna Campbell, Jaxon Garcia, Cullen Campbell and Brooklyn Garcia. Carolyn graduated from Boerne High School in 1958, after which she attended Draughon’s Business College in San Antonio. She was married to Billie Rufe Goodall in June 1966 and divorced in December 1975.

Carolyn lived a full and active life, serving in her community and in her career of 48-plus years with the Texas Department of Transportation. She started work at the Highway Department as the Boerne Office secretary then transferred to Kerrville. She eventually made it to the San Antonio district offices, working in public transportation.

Much of her career was spent as the mobility coordinator for the district, working directly with the Alamo Area Council of Governments (AACOG) to help provide health and human services to residents in the region.

She was overseeing the purchase and use of vehicles to be used by Alamo Regional Transit, also known as ART, which serviced and operated in 11 of the 12 counties in the San Antonio district.

During her tenure, she was awarded many accommodations for her work and accomplishments in this area. She retired in December 2010 from her position as public transportation coordinator for the division.

Carolyn was very active with the Texas Public Employees Association (TPEA), serving twice as president (first female to be elected twice), and serving on both regional and statewide boards. She was very proud of the honors and accommodations she received in support of Texas public employees.

Her contributions are felt still today by state employees that saw increases in salaries, sick leave and vacation hours due to Carolyn’s diligence and hard work with local and state politicians. She served on the Kendall County Historical Board and was very active in keeping history alive in Kendall County.

Carolyn was a past president of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Kendall County Fair Association and was a lifelong member, contributing many hours as a volunteer at the Kendall County Fair each year. Carolyn has been described as a “very hard worker, loyal and respected with many friends”. She was a powerhouse that will be missed.

The family of Carolyn Jo Harz Goodall wishes to express their sincere gratitude and humble appreciation for the many prayers, visits, phone calls, texts and flowers from all of Mom’s, Oma to her grandchildren, family, neighbors, and friends in our time of sorrow.

Visitation was planned for Sept. 7, 2023, at Ebensberger Fisher Funeral Home. A graveside service was scheduled for Sept. 8, 2023, at the Boerne City Cemetery.
