Three of the four high school varsity football teams in Kendall County had their first real taste of action in 2023 after they engaged in scrimmages last Friday.

Boerne High was scheduled to be at home but their scrimmage was moved to Kerrville Tivy because Boerne ISD Stadium is getting a new turf installed.

Geneva School of Boerne was at home last Friday to host Hyde Park, while Comfort was also at home last Friday and welcomed Center Point.

Greyhounds coach Che Hendrix said he was pleased with their performance against the Antlers.

“We were solid,” he said. “It was a good scrimmage.”

First-year Eagles coach Grant Gaston liked what he saw but added there’s plenty of room to get better.

“There’s lots to work on and improve but we held our own,” he said. “We lost the live quarter 8-7 and we’ll continue to make corrections. We were tough and gritty as we expected to be.”

The action continues this week as teams have their last scrimmages of the year before the regular season starts next week.

Champion hosts Churchill for its only scrimmage of the preseason Thursday, 6:30 p.m. The Chargers only have one scrimmage each year since they have spring drills in May and can’t start practice until the second week of August.

Boerne High visits Liberty Hill for a 6:30 p.m. scrimmage, Geneva hosts Harper in Boerne, 6:30 p.m. and Comfort is at Bandera, 5 p.m.
